In our Media Library the thumbnails
– for portrait images are shown cropped to a landscape format
– the landscape images are shown cropped to a square.
(See screenshot attached – left landscape image, right portrait image)
That really confuses me, when I try to select images for galleries.
If I open the attachment details of an portrait image it shows the image in portrait.
If I open the attachment details of a landscape image it shows a cropped square version.
I tried to change the media settings for the thumbnails, so that they aren’t cropped, but if I enter new dimensions and uncheck that “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)”-box and click save – all the settings are still the same and nothing changed.
I think, the cropped images are used for the Portfolio grid and for the blogpost featured image. An yes, I see, in your theme, that there are only landscape images used. But I also use potrait images in my blogposts and it’s just a total mess, that every uploaded image creates 13 different cropped versions in the upload-folder.
How can I fix that?
